Episode 3: Cocktail and "Mocktail" Making
In this 2nd episode, contractor and interior designer, Carrie McCall and "Cocktail Making Extraordinaire", Heather Cody, reveal their favorite seasonal cocktail (and mocktail) recipes ideal for entertaining guests both big and small.
EPISODE 2: RECIPES
Blueberry Moscow Mule
A new take on an oldie. Fill a copper mug with ice. Then add 2 ounces of Vodka, 2 ounces of freshly squeezed lime juice, 1 ounce of *blueberry sage simple syrup, then top it of with a light ginger beer, and add a lime slice and mint spring for garnish.
*Blueberry Sage Simple Syrup
In a small pot add 1 cup of sugar, 1 cup of water, 2-3 sage leaves, and 8 blueberries. Let the mixture boil while stirring until the sugar is melted. Let cool then poor into a jar with a pour spout or a squeeze bottle. You can remove the sage and blueberries before adding to bottle or you can leave them in to add more flavor. You could also break up the blueberries for added flavor.
The Blue Ripple (kids)
Fill a mason jar with ice, then fill 1/2 of the glass with Blue Hawaiian Punch, and the other 1/2 glass of Fresh Lemonade. Then add fresh blueberries, a fun straw, or a ribbon candy skewer for garnish.
Shirley Temple Punch (kids)
Fill a fun glass with ice then add equal parts of Ginger Ale, Limeade, Orange Juice, fill a test tube of grenadine for added fun for kids.
Blackberry Lemonade (the southern way)
In a cocktail shaker add 5-6 fresh blackberries, 2oz Bourbon, 1/2 oz **simple syrup (recipe below), 2 ounces of fresh squeezed lemon juice, add ice to the shaker, and shake to break up the berries. In a glass of ice, strain the mixture into the glass and garnish with a blackberry and mint sprig.
Sweet Southern Tea
In a glass filled mason glass jar, add 2.5 ounces Vodka Tea, 2 oz of freshly brewed iced tea, 2 oz of fresh lemonade then garnish with a few lemon slices and a mint sprig.
To make it a Peach Tea, add 1/2 ounce of Peach Schnapps to the ingredients.
Cherry Bomb Mojito
In a cocktail shaker add 2 spoonfuls of freshly pitted cherries, 2 lime slices, and 6 mint leaves. Muddle them well. Then add to the shaker, ice, 2 ounces of White Rum, 1 ounce of Cointreau, 1 ounce fresh *cherry simple syrup, (see below), 1oz of fresh squeezed lime juice, and shake with all of your might. Poor the entire shaker into a glass, add more ice, then finish the glass with club soda, and garnish with a cherry and mint sprig.
*Cherry Simple Syrup,
In a pot add 1 Cup Sugar, 1 Cup Water, then add a bag of sliced fresh cherries (pitted) to the mixture and let boil for 30 seconds. Pour mixture into an airtight container. Let cool in the fridge for at least 2 hours or overnight. This is also great to make ahead of time and will keep in the fridge for several days.
This is a light refreshing cocktail for an evening delight on the porch. In a volatile shaker, add ice, then add 2-3 ounces of Pink Limoncello, 2 ounces of freshly squeezed lemon juice, pour into a coupe or martini glass, top it off with a healthy pour of Prosecco. Add raspberries and a mint sprig for garnish.
